“Songs with melodies McCartney would kill for. Brilliant.”

Rolling Stone, Australia
When Everett True (the esteemed English rock writer) gave Garageland's last album ‘Do What You Want” a rave four and a half out of five review in Rolling Stone (Aus) two years ago, he added to an onslaught of critical praise and acclaim for the song talent of this New Zealand band…
“Garageland is a mixed bag of any and all sub-genre pop/rock classifications that the band's sound both embodies and exhilarates. The fruit of Garageland's labor has yielded "Do What You Want," a grand sophomore album.”
” –Billboard Magazine - Critic’s Choice
"Eade's sharp lyrics and distinctive singing make him sound like a
distant cousin of Paul Simon - with a bit of Paul McCartney
thrown in for good measure"
- LA Times, USA
“They make sparkling singalong pop out of
clever, resonant lyrics, all executed with smooth confidence and a dash of alt-rock acidity.”
Rolling Stone, USA
And they now have a brand new album ‘Scorpio Righting.’
‘Scorpio Righting’ is Garageland’s “rock n roll and pop” tribute album. It’s already been acclaimed as a “tight and thrilling rock’n’roll riff fest” and “the perfect summer record with which to alienate the neighbours” in its first major paper review. It’s a breath of fresh rock n roll air bouncing with cool “straight to the point” lyrics, tight exact phrasing and a blitzkrieg of classic throw away style and melody. Singer/ Guitarist Jeremy Eade, Drummer Andrew Gladstone, Bass player Mark Silvey and new guitarist Dave Goodison have woven together 12 cracking songs with the aid of producer Malcolm Welsford. The album features a perfect mix of the upcoming summer single ‘Life Is So Sweet” by Nick Didia. Scorpio Righting was recorded over an eight month period at Kare Kare, on Auckland’s rugged west coast, in the same studio made famous by Crowded House’s “Together Alone” album.
This from a band who 4 years ago were playlisted by Auckland’s college radio station after a chain of laughable mishaps. The station programmer initially lost their only demo tape but on finding it, playlisted it and gave the band a smash summer hit across radio. That good piece of fortune has seen Garageland send both albums (1997’s Last Exit To Garageland and 1999’s Do What You Want) into the Top Ten of New Zealand’s national chart, receive two gold records, put 8 singles into the New Zealand Top 30, complete 12 successful national tours, be nominated twice for the APRA Songwriting awards and be presented with a New Zealand Band of the Year music award at New Zealand;s equivalent of the Grammys. They’ve gathered a swag of local critical acclaim and fan adoration, collected a truckload of stand out record and live reviews and produced a back catalogue teeming with bona fide rock and roll gems. What’s more remarkable is they have done this while spending long periods of time living and touring overseas.
Garageland have toured large chunks of the U.S, Britain and Australia, played some of the more prestigious European summer music festivals and the Australian ‘Big Day Out.’ They have released both albums internationally and have worked with some of the biggest producers in the industry - Alan Moulder (Smashing Pumpkins, My Bloody Valentine), Nick Didia (Pearl Jam, Powderfinger), John Cale (The Stooges, Patti Smith), Ben Grosse (Filter, Fuel, Republica). They have received rave reviews from the U.S Rolling Stone, U.S Billboard magazine, NME, Melody Maker, U.S Hits magazine and Australian Rolling Stone.
International highlights include entering the U.K indie charts twice, making NME’s “turn ons” page three times, receiving excellent reviews from the U.S Rolling Stone and Billboard magazines in the same week, playing the famous Reading festival to a packed and attentive audience, being the “out of the blue” album of the week on Australia’s JJJ radio, and twice being asked to play the cool band mega-fest that is the Austin, Texas SXSW music festival, the last visit culminating in them being pictured on the program cover with The Black Crowes, Stephen Malkmus andThe Strokes.
Overseas lows include being sued twice for strange touring antics, crashing their rented Mercedes van five minutes into a tour and having their website stolen by an internet trader, who then offered to sell it back for a staggering US$100,000. The band laughed. They now have a new website at:

WHAT THE CRITICS SAY:
“With infectious sarcasm, wit and an hypnotic guitar-pop sound, they have become college and underground favorites in the US. In New Zealand Garageland calls the acclaimed Flying Nun label home. Their new 'Do What You Want' (out in the US on Foodchain) is a Pavement/Pixies-ish pop pastiche of distorted guitars and buoyant melodies.”
